My Onan 4KWQ generator with 50 hours in my 8 month old 2016 Forester wouldn't start Thursday morning as we were about to head home from Yosemite. It would crank but as soon as I released the start button it died. I checked and there was 3/4 tank of gas and the batteries we 90%. I then checked the carburetor choke and it was working and I could smell gas. We had plenty of battery power to bring in the slides and raise the levelers. I was able to get 1 4 trouble code which is high frequency. Once at Oakhurst, CA (cell service was intermittent in Yosemite Valley) I called my dealer and he referred me to a local Onan authorized repair shop close by. I called them and the said to bring it in yesterday at 8am. After much testing, the said the generator had to be removed as the problem lies internally. Late yesterday, I spoke with them and they said it was the bushings and that it appears there was some debris or something there. Anyway, they had the bushing assembly and it's back running. They need to finish reassembly and I can come in Monday afternoon to have the generator reinstalled. Under warranty, no charge!
Anyone else have issues like this? How easy is it to replace the bushings and does the generator really need to be removed?
