I have an odd leak in my 2014 Freedom Express 246RKS. Water is dripping down the wall just below the cabinet over the dinette. There is no water on the ceiling and none in the cabinet but the water was pretty much running down the wall during a heavy downpour while I was camping on Friday night.
I had the trailer to the dealer for a leak in that general area (under warranty) earlier this year because my dinette cushion was wet. They said it was the A/C seal so they replaced that. Said the water was dripping through the a/c vent in the ceiling and onto the dinette. I wasn't convinced (because the cushion wasn't wet under the vent, only by the wall) but didn't notice any more leaking after that until now.
I didn't have a ladder with me this weekend I did a little recon in the park and the only other camper that had a portable one, left before I got up Saturday morning (and I was up at 6:00am!). When I got home today, I climbed up on a ladder and inspected the roof and the seals and they both look like they're brand new. I didn't see any cracking seals or any obvious holes.
I have a few theories but wanted to see what you wise folks think.
Theory#1: The awning looked like it was sagging in the middle along the rail when I put it out the first time on Thursday. The awning is coming out of the track, and the rain is getting through (the outside of the trailer was wet even with the awning out) and then the water is getting in through the hole for the LED light strip which is just about where the end of the cabinet is, which is where the water is dripping down the wall.
Theory #2: This awning is huge like 18' or something. Maybe with the awning extended in the rain, it is heavy and has pulled the side of the trailer enough that it opened up a small crevice that I didn't see when I parked it today because the awning was rolled up. I only mention this one because when the awning does it's auto-dump, it really rocks the trailer so maybe causes stress where the wall attaches to the roof.
So, wise people, what do you think? It is past the manufacturer's warranty but I do have an extended warranty which may cover the awning. I'd like to take it back to the dealer and have them fix it correctly under the same service ticket from when it was under warranty, but I really don't have the fight in me for that.
For now, I've put a bunch of butyl tape around the end of the light strip just in case. We're supposed to have rain starting Tuesday, so I guess I'll find out if it really is the awning and LED strip. I also stopped at Camping World on my way home and picked up some Dicor Lap Sealant. I got both kinds; self-leveling and non self-leveling.
Thank you in advance for any help or other ideas someone might have.
