One of my recurring gripes about my 2015 Forester MBS has been the slam latches on the exterior baggage doors.
On a couple of occasions, I have been unable to get the compartment door open. The first time, I was able to reach through another compartment and open the problem door. This last time, it was a single compartment with two latches and I was unable to open it. I had to drill the lock and latch out to be able to open the compartment. This was the advice given by the door and latch manufacturer.
During my conversation with Challenger Door, they indicated they have redesigned the internals on the latches to make them more robust. I obtained 9 locking and one non-locking latch to replace the existing door latches. They do appear to retract the catch further than the older style - the form factor and outside appearance is identical. Hopefully they will work better than the old ones. Unfortunately, there are no options for unique keying of these locks.
Good customer service from Challenger Door!
